The name pays tribute to two cornerstones of Kentucky’s legacy. The “Blackline” represents the coal mines of Eastern Kentucky; the tough, gritty work that shaped generations. The “Barrel” nods to the iconic bourbon barrels that define Kentucky craftsmanship. Even our scent names are steeped in local pride... inspired by the culture, history, and heritage of the Bluegrass State.
Back in 2018, after trying four different beard balms in six weeks, I realized something: none of them hit the mark. One was too greasy, one smelled awful despite some awesome packaging, one did absolutely nothing for my beard, and one was overpriced and yet still underwhelming.
That’s when I decided to fix the problem myself. I dove deep into what actually makes a beard product work... not just smell good or sit on the shelf looking pretty. After some testing, adjusting, and perfecting, Blackline & Barrel was born.
I may not still sit behind the wheel of my Peterbilt 389, but I still carry an active Class A CDL and the pride that comes with it. I’ve spent years hauling crude in the oil field and working through every kind of weather and terrain the road throws at you.
Beyond trucking, I’ve worked in landscaping and construction too... and I know firsthand how irritating a greasy, unmanageable beard can be when you're out in the elements. Sweat, dust, wind, and grime don’t mix well with cheap product.
Blackline & Barrel was built for this life; for men who work with their hands and don’t have time for fluff. It’s beard care that holds up through the day and keeps your face feeling clean, soothed, and dialed in — without the mess.
My beard balm dials back on shea butter and leans into mango butter for better absorption and a smooth, non-greasy feel. Beeswax adds a subtle hold to help shape and strengthen your beard throughout the day.
And the oil? It’s loaded with premium carriers like marula, meadowfoam, hemp, jojoba, and argan. No filler junk, no watered-down blends. Just high-performance hydration your beard and skin will actually notice.
As for the scents — they’re rooted in Southern Kentucky heritage. Bold, rugged, and masculine. Think bourbon, leather, smoke, tobacco, and fresh woods. There’s also an unscented option for guys who want performance without the aroma.
I wasn’t born in Kentucky, but I’ve called it home most of my life. I’ve lived in Bell County, McCracken County, and now Lexington, and this state’s blue-collar spirit runs deep in everything I make.
Each jar and bottle is handmade here in Lexington, KY in small batches using organic oils and butters. No fillers. No gimmicks. Just real-deal beard care made for real-deal men.
